ABOUT
Duane Smith started playing drums at the age of 10 when his father bought him his first drum kit. Taking lessons at school and trying to pick out the beats of his favorite acts like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney and Wings and YES.
After high school in 1979, he went to college for a couple of years in Cincinnati, OH. Afterward becoming a professional drummer and went on the road with various local acts from the Southern IN and Louisville area from 1983 thru 85.
In 1985 he got a job with then Nashville recording artist Little David Wilkins and toured the U.S. Along the way from 1986 to 1989 he also did sit in appearances with Nashville acts such as John Conlee, The Whites and Billy Joe Royal.
In 1990 he accepted a job with Grammy Award winner Shelby Lynne and toured the U.S thru 1992. After this touring stint, he returned home and worked with various local arts in the Louisville area such as Trick Rider, Neon Cowboys, The Grind, Jeff Walls and Wichita Rose and The Moodswingers.
In 2001, Duane started teaching drums at Mom’s Music in Jeffersonville, IN and was there till May of 2018.
In 2006 he started working with a local Beatles tribute band called The Rigbys and has been working along side his other bands Old School and Brutally Handsome (Eagles Tribute).
He now resides in Nashville, TN and is working around the area and still with bands in the Louisville area.
Duane has also taught drums for the last 17 years at Maxwell's House of Music in Jeffersonville, IN. Leaving there last May to pursue working in Nashville. Duane will be teaching in the Nashville area as well.
